Finding somewhere which does a good takeaway burger is hard to come across. Luckily for me, there is an awesome place called Chosen Bun, located on Fulham Road. I’ve had burgers from here a number of times and the food is always top-notch and the service is great too.
People (including myself) are always very quick to talk about bad service. But here are a couple of examples of the great service I have received from the staff at Chosen Bun. One time, I had to wait about 45 minutes for an order. For a takeaway this is pretty standard and I thought nothing of it. Later that day, I received a call from a guy at Chosen Bun saying that he felt this wasn’t acceptable and that as a way of apology, I would receive a free burger and side when I made my next order. The other day when I went to place an order online, I saw that there were no gluten-free buns listed on the site like there usually are. I called the restaurant to enquire and was advised that there were, they just hadn’t updated their website to reflect that they were back in stock. The lady on the end of the phone advised that if I wrote it in the notes, I would receive a gluten-free bun. She also took my name, so that she could personally ensure that the bun was gluten-free. Great service! Not so good that they hadn’t updatedd the website, but she definitely made up for it. It’s worth noting that yes, my burger bun was gluten-free when it arrived!
With regards to the food, I’ve tried a good portion of the menu and am never disappointed. The beef burgers are always cooked to perfection, and are never dry. Likewise with the Slim-Jim Chicken. Chicken burgers often are dry and tasteless. Chosen Bun seem to have got theirs just right. It might be down to the fact that it has a number of accompaniments (such as garlic and avocado mayo and mozarella) to stop it from drying out, but who cares, it tastes great!
The various toppings mean that you can really customise your burger, and I’ve often found myself going to town and adding heaps of things! I did add some bacon to my Viking burger the other day, and I do have to say that it was a bit too fatty for my liking and tasted a bit charred. However, with everything else being spot-on, it didn’t ruin things.
Now, I would never normally opt for a veggie burger, but I must say that I am tempted to try theirs – mushrooms, edamame beans, mozarella and other bits – it sounds delicious. I can imagine that I would get food envy though when I see the boy tucking into his beef burger!
One thing I must note is the sides. Their chips (aka Belgians) are perfect. Thick cut, triple cooked and seasoned with rosemary salt. Absolutely delicious. Before I gave up gluten, I tried their Mark and Cheese Bites. I genuinely miss these. Fried mac’n’cheese. What’s not to like?
All in all, as you can tell from this great review, I would definitely recommend. It’s a shame that there’s not more of these in London. However, if you are in Fulham, definitely check it out!
